by her doctor after she had missed several appointments with him.

Two days later the policemen visited the flat with a spare key obtained from her

cleaner who had not heard from her for weeks. They found

nothing out of the ordinary. The flat was clean, quiet and tidy. None of the cupboards

had been emptied; there seemed to be an abundance of clothes still

hanging up. The bedroom contained a long looking-glass. In the bathroom they

found several bottles of expensive scents. After this , they went back

to the doctor who had alerted them in the first place. But he was unable to

give any useful information. He said that he had last seen her just before the summer.

Apparently no one saw her leave.
